I finally got my Massdrop order in for a nice DSA keycap set called Granite.
Here’s the keycaps partially pulled off my CM Storm QuickFire Rapid with MX browns, pretty disgusting in there after almost a year:
I ran into a problem with my stabilizers (the white things that go on a steel bar underneath long keys like the spacebar, enter key, shifts, etc.) where they were too loose and not staying in the new caps, and had to improvise a solution without using glue, because I didn’t have any and didn’t want to mess up these beautiful caps. I cut pieces of plastic out of the inflated shipping pillows, put it on the stabilizer posts, and slipped them into the keys. It worked out quite well, no issues so far!
Here’s the finished board: I’m debating whether to switch out F1, F2, F3 and F4 to their gray counterparts, because like the contrast.
The keys are very nice to type on, they’re not slippery like the old caps and DSA is a very nice shape for a keycap. Instead of cylindrical, they’re spherical, so your fingers find them better, at least in my opinion. The home row finder keys (f and j) are dimpled deeper than the rest instead of a bump, which is nice. I didn’t notice it at first but I did notice I was instinctively finding the home row without looking at the keyboard, and didn’t know why until I looked closely at the f and j caps.
In addition, this keycap set is flat, which I like a lot better so far than the sculpted profile of my old caps.
For the symboling I find the Print Screen, Scroll Lock, and Pause/Break keys a little odd-looking, and unfortunately I didn’t get a Stop media cap, but it worked out. Really enjoying this set.
