App Defaults
My RSS reader is filled with these posts so here’s mine. The idea is like a frozen /uses/ page and similarly filled with Apple defaults. Might be neat to look back at.
- Mail Client: Apple Mail
- Mail Server: iCloud (it’s ok)
- Notes: Obsidian on macOS; iA Writer for using my Obsidian vault on iOS because the Obsidian app is terrible
- Todo: Apple Reminders, Obsidian
- iPhone camera app: the default one. Used to use Halide but it’s too much
- Photo Management: Apple Photos
- Calendar: Apple Calendar
- Contacts: Apple Contacts
- Weather: Apple Weather
- File Sharing: iCloud Drive (least annoying one surprisingly)
- RSS: NetNewsWire
- Browser: Safari (seriously); Arc for development (meh). All browsers are terrible
- Chat: iMessage (meh), Telegram (it’s complicated), Discord (hate)
- Bookmarks: Safari and Obsidian
- Read Later/Link Graveyard: Safari Reading List
- Shopping List: Apple Reminders shared with Lauren
- News: Nope; my life is better without rage bait
- Music: Apple Music
- Podcasts: Pocket Casts (man it’s been two years since I listened to one)
- Password Management: 1Password
- Social Networks: Mastodon (might delete), Lastfm (is it social tho?), LinkedIn (need money)
- Maps: Apple Maps
- Text Editor: Sublime Text (gorgeous), Vim (quick terminal edits/posturing), VS Code (rare)
- Terminal: macOS Terminal
- Shell: fish
- Git Client: Sublime Merge
- Package Manager: Homebrew
- Writing: iA Writer, Sublime Text
- Reading: Kindle Paperwhite (2017)
- Launcher: macOS Spotlight
- Meetings: Apple FaceTime, Whereby. All meeting apps are terrible
- Spreadsheets: Apple Numbers
- Personal Finance: YNAB (good enough)
- Search: DuckDuckGo with uBlacklist to block domains
- Backups: macOS Time Machine, Synology DS215+, Synology C2
- Graphics/Vector Design: Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer
- Docs: Dash
